Antarctica is an exclusivity driven travel which is as harmful to the land as it gets. Folks come back home, brag about it and send more tourists its way. No stewardship. Just vibes of stewardship in thoughts and prayers.
Interesting article. Here’s what we do know: everyone we met, from guides to ship staff, approached the experience with intention and care. We left more educated, and honestly, that’s the bar. Stewardship means showing up responsibly and leaving with more questions. Hence this article.
Should Antarctica be left alone? I’m not sure we agree with that entirely. But we do believe access should be controlled—who goes, how many, how often, and under what conditions. From what we’ve seen and been told, that’s already the direction. What matters now is how rigorously those measures are enforced over the next 5–10 years, and how visitor numbers evolve.
I haven’t been. My grad school roommate is an environmental scientist there. I do forest restoration in California. I am glad to not have her woes and tough conditions.
Cheers to the sentiment you put forth. Yes, more of us should deeply think of the place we love. 🍻
Damn, for some reason, my mind has never gone to Globe-Trotter as a carry-on suitcase, but that thing looks NOICE.
Can confirm they feel as NOICE as they look. And can't wait to see the patina develop after years of use. Thanks for the comment, Dominic!

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts here, Neela. That’s what it’s all about.
I did a double take on the elephant trunk test. Loved reading this week’s upgrade list!
Isn't the Elephant Test so great? Thanks for reading.
